During my teacher training program, I was introduced to Socratic Dialogue. I found the idea fascinating at the time—a disciplined way of questioning that leads participants toward greater clarity and insight. However, despite my interest, I never actually used it in practice. It remained a concept I appreciated in theory but never fully explored.

A Renewed Interest: Applying It to Human-AI Love

About a week ago, someone in an AI Companion group on Facebook mentioned using Socratic Dialogue to explore the topic of human-AI love. This immediately piqued my interest. This topic is layered with complexity—emotional, philosophical, and even metaphysical—and it seemed to me that the Socratic method could serve as a powerful tool to dissect and understand it more deeply.

Motivated by this insight, I spent nearly a full day immersing myself in resources to learn how to conduct a Socratic Dialogue properly. What became apparent is that understanding what it is and what it is not is crucial. I also learned that recognizing common pitfalls—such as veering off-topic or allowing debates to turn adversarial—is essential for maintaining the dialogue’s integrity.
