Yes, I understand and thanks for clarifying. I am not implying that all Catholics take their religion on blind faith. Much of my early intellectual life was shaped when I joined a discussion group led by a Jesuit brother in Hong Kong. I have great respect for the Catholic intellectual tradition. One of my favorite spiritual teachers today is Richard Rohr. I am also a big fan of Meister Eckhart and Anthony de Mello. Having said that, there are Christians who think that their religion is based on blind faith. To be fair, many devotees of various religions, including Buddhists, have the same misconception. However, if one understands Buddha’s teaching properly, one will know that Buddha was a rationalist. In the Kalamas Sutta, he indicated that even his own words, as the teacher, have to be independently verified by the student. Buddhism is rather unique in that regard.
